Creative Direction, Branding, UX/UI
For Drift Behavioral Health, a new rehabilitation center in Colorado focused on behavioral health, we were tasked with building a brand identity from the ground up. With only a name (inspired by the founder’s love of fly fishing) and a desire to be connected to nature, we had to craft an entire brand world: strategy, visual identity, and a fully optimized website.
The Challenge, Approach, and Deliverables
With rehabilitation spaces more typically dominated by clinical, sterile visual identities in their branding, we saw an opportunity to help Drift stand out. This sparked our creativity, ideating a concept that speaks to healing through nature, calmness, human connection, and grounded approaches. Additionally, we aimed to communicate the clarity, trust, and professionalism needed for behavioral health care centers.
“Drift. A breath of fresh air in behavioral health.”
Our team prioritized the founder’s personal connection to nature, specifically fly fishing, and created a visual brand inspired by movement, water, healing, and the Colorado scenery.
"Drift" became a guiding metaphor behind bringing this brand to life, weaving it into every aspect. It now represents moving forward with progress, letting go, and flowing with life rather than fighting against it.
At the crux of the visual identity is a custom-designed logo:
A curved rectangle containing the word “drift,” with a river and mountain icon referencing Colorado’s landscape and the journey of healing.
The rounded rectangle provides a feeling of safety and inclusivity.
The river symbolizes resilience and the ongoing flow of personal progress.
The slanted, cursive 'd' transitions seamlessly into the modern sans-serif “rift,” creating a balance between human touch and structure that mirrors the healing process.
We created two primary logo versions:
A clean wordmark perfect for digital spaces and minimalist applications.
A full icon version that brings in the nature elements, adding context and emotional depth when needed.
This approach gave us the flexibility to maintain a consistent brand voice while adapting to different platforms as needed.
The color palette we chose evokes a strong sense of calm, clear-mindedness, and peaceful nature:
Hunter Green: Indicating stability and groundedness
Periwinkle and Soft Purple: Connoting serenity, care, and optimism
Straw: Exuding warmth and light
Alabaster: A greenish off-white that’s clean yet organic
Typography is set in JUST Sans, a contemporary typeface that’s clean, easily legible, and inviting. This is a practical and user-friendly way to further support Drift’s tone of voice, namely informative, warm, and approachable.
For all photographic images, we opted for natural and candid shots, highlighting real human connections and outdoorsy settings. Rather than stocky or rigidly posed visuals, Drift’s photography feels lived-in, honest, and tangible, reflecting the brand’s values and encouraging feelings of comfort and community.
To tie all our brand identity work together, we designed and built a modern, SEO-optimized website from scratch. With UI/UX best practices in mind, we created an easy-to-use online experience that balances clear messaging with authentic emotion. This involved:
Clear navigation
Welcoming content architecture
Accessible, mobile-first design
Fast performance and SEO-optimized structure
The final product of a website that’s aesthetically beautiful, user-centric, and built to perform showcases how functional and transformational design can go a long way. Drift’s website represents a digital home that feels like a new beginning for all visitors.
